Dutch Musical Clock Restoration Project
This is a restoration project I accepted in collaboration with a fellow clockmaker in Mississippi. This clock is “not signed” on the dial, but dates to circa 1870. It is a Dutch tallcase clock with a porcelain dial that displays the date from a calendar wheel, but also sounds the hours on a deep-tone bell and the half-hours on a higher-tone bell. It also plays 12 different songs utilizing 14 nested bells. In addition to these functions it also incorporates a moon dial to display the changing phases of the moon.
At the present time, the photo essay that follows shows the disassembly, cleaning and re-assembly process, but does not describe each stage — that will follow later when I have the time to devote to the description. More pix will be added as things proceed . . .
